Evaluation of Family Literacy Programming In the NWT
Introduction
The paper evaluation report tends to gauge the effective implementation of family literacy programming in the North West Territories (NWT). It has established its motives under the supervision of the governmental bodies. It believes that the entire community can flourish once the parents understand their immense role to encouraging and motivating children for reading and enhancing their knowledge.
The main purpose of the programme is to project awareness among the concerning parties out of which parents are the most significant member. They are one of the stakeholders whose input decides the success of this initiative. The evaluation will calculate the extent to which this programme has earned its target and what the loopholes are which can be mended to improve the viability of the programme (Andrews, 1997).

Support for the Evaluation
In the month of May 2001, the strategy of Northwest Territories government was taken in hand in the Northwest Territories. The government strategy was known as the “Framework for Action: Early Childhood Development”. This strategy has the four different divisions; like support of family and the parenting, support for community and building of capacity and development of adolescent (Kim & Cervero, 2007).
Who Plan and Oversee the Evaluation
The evaluation was done by the Sharon Hume and Associates were hired from Victoria. Hume and Associate were hired by the “department of Education”, “Department of Health and Social Services”, and “Department of Culture and Employment”. On the other hand, the NWT literacy Council judge and monitor the evaluation. Calling for an outsider to evaluation is an appreciable gesture.
Purpose of the Evaluation
The main purposes of the evaluation are to make sure about the communication of the main idea to all the involved parties, and to enhance the awareness of parents. On the other hand, the other purposes of this evaluation are to improve and sustain main services obtainable to small children and their family units and to support the family and adolescent at the society level (Kim & Cervero, 2007).
Judgment and Evaluation
The main areas which are judged depend on the purposes of the evaluation report. The evaluation for this report is depends on these steps:
Were the parents aware of the significance of the literacy?
Were the services for the young children and their families were improved and sustain?
Were the programs related to the early childhood had the strong association for families and their children?
Data Collection Technique
The data collection techniques used for the evaluation are interviews, surveys, written questionnaires and meetings. The interviews of various people of the project were taken. The team interviewed those individuals who took part in the institutes of family literacy trainings and who were running the literacy programs of family in their society, or who dispensed the kits of family learning.
