Euthanasia is Moral or Immoral

Outline

This paper is based on the concept of validity & ethical aspects of Euthanasia. The legalization prospects are also reflected in this paper. Euthanasia, or "mercy killing", is the practice of healthcare professionals deliberately ending a person's life in order to stop their pain. This can be done by many means, from withholding extreme medical treatment to giving the patient an injection that results directly in their death. Many doctors are faced with a tough situation when they treat chronic, terminally ill patients who are suffering and in severe pain. When these patients have no hope of getting better they sometimes turn to the professionals and beg them to let them die. Out of mercy, some medical professionals choose to grant their patient's wishes for death through any direct or indirect means. As such, some of them get in trouble. (example: Kevorkian) There have been various cases where doctors were arrested and charged for murder because they practiced euthanasia.

My question to start conversation in this thread is, do you think a doctor who grants someone's wish for death by means of euthanasia should be punished and tried for murder? Is assisted medical suicide right or wrong? If you were in the doctor's position, and a terminally ill/sick person with no hope of recovery (and who likely was going to die anyway) asked you to stop treating them or kill them by any means to end their pain... would you do it? Why or why not?

Introduction

The issues regarding the legalization of physician assisted suicides and euthanasia in the United States are preoccupying the judiciary, legislators, legal and ethicist scholars, health-care practitioners and the local public to an increasing extent around the country. Several theories have been made in jurisdictions for legalizing euthanasia and/or suicides which are physician assisted. Law is also making many changes to put serious considerations in this regard. This movement to remove the legal punitive for medical physicians who support disable patients to take their own life vulnerably due to their disability of some serious illness is posing several problems.

Discussion

The difference between killing and permitting to die in the context of health-care is really a matter of consideration by many commentators and they suggested for minimizing such wrongful acts. As it an obvious crucial fact that physician assisted suicides and active euthanasia are open violations of U.S. existing laws and are considered as illegal. It included withdrawing or withholding medical treatments for disable patients either by own choice or by the consent of patient which is totally unlawful in medical terminologies as well. This distinction raised the issue to seek out safeguards and other safety measures that could protect such kind of deaths or there may have some counterparts to protect persons from the disability abuses by changing law that could permit euthanasia and physician assisted suicides (Snyder, pp.479).
