Euthanasia



Since the Victorian times, during past hundred years, the people's attitude and behaviors towards the death and sex and death have entirely reversed. Much discussion about the death was held in those days, and the subject was commemorated as a normal part of everyday life while sex was almost unthinkable. On the other hand, the current era depicts that the subject of sex is widely and openly discussed while death has become the great taboo. There exist a lot of arguments against and in favor of the authorization of euthanasia. Many a times, the medical practitioners believe that instead of making the patients endure intolerable and agonizing suffering, as a part of fatal disease, they should be permitted to comfort them of their agonies and help to cause their own inevitable death. May be these remains as one of the many reasons that for the manner in which one leaves this material world is considered to be a discussion which is capable of resulting into sever anger and emotion. Not a lot of people on this world sit on the fence on the issue of euthanasia or assisted suicide - most have fairly strong beliefs that they are either morally right or morally wrong.

Euthanasia

The terms Euthanasia pertains to the observing of deliberately finishing an individual's life for the purpose of relieving him/her from the sufferings and pain. Various laws in different regions and countries that command the euthanasia regulations. Euthanasia has been defined by the British House of Lords Select Committee with respect to Medical Ethics as a purposeful involvement performed with the expression of the intent to end one's life, to alleviate willful distress and agony (Harris, 2001). Euthanasia, in the Netherlands, is considered as the life annihilation at the patient's request by the doctor (BBC, 2011).

There are various terms which have been utilized to describe the purposeful ending of the mortal life. The concept of Euthanasia itself has been considered to take it roots from the Greek, euthanatize, which refers to an easy and gentle death, however, this barely describes and perfectly elaborates upon what euthanasia is about. Few of the many terms given to euthanasia includes mercy killing, or killing in the name of sympathy and compassion. The people in Netherlands understand euthanasia as a source to end a life on the request of the patient. The physician's responsibility is engaged in an act of euthanasia. In case of irregularities, the Commission monitoring and evaluation checks whether euthanasia was performed in compliance with legal requirements, may refer the matter to justice.

Terms

Euthanasia can be performed only if the following conditions are met:

The patient is an adult (or minor advance) at the time of application.

The patient is conscious and able at the time of application.

Written request is made voluntarily, carefully and repeatedly.

The application is not subject to any external pressure.

The patient is in a medical situation hopeless.

The physical and / or psychological is constant, unbearable and unappeasable.
