Ethical Standards In The Profession Of HR

Introduction

In this era of immense competition, the Image and reputation of an organization are of considerable importance when dealing in the management of HR. This is because the success or failure of any organization lies with the HR involved in the company operations and in order to be successful, an organization should be capable of attracting and recruiting the best talent available in the market. This is possible if the company successfully brands itself as the best employer which is possible when an organization conducts all its activities in an ethical manner. There are many activities performed by the HR professionals but the most important of all is recruitment which will impact the organizations image to the greatest extent (Andrews, 1997).

Recruitment

Recruitment refers to the process of attracting the right talent and then evaluating the potential of the candidates to select the best according to the needs of the organization. It also involves inducting the employees so that they can gain an understanding of the policies and procedures of an organization and become contributing employees (Andrews, 1997).

Laws related to recruitment

Laws regarding the recruitment process have been enforced by the government of USA in order to ensure that are the hiring practices are made without any discrimination.

Age Discrimination in Employment Act enforced in 1967 prohibits an employer from discriminating among the job applicants on the basis of their age while advertising for a job, and recruiting and selecting candidates (The, 1963).

Americans with Disabilities Act enforced in 1990 requires that each business having more than 15 employees must allow a disabled but qualified job applicant to complete the job application process (The, 1963).

Civil Rights Act enforced in 1964 prohibits an employer from rejecting a job applicant on basis of race, sex, religion or national ...
