Scenario 1

How would you consult/communicate with your team and management to promote team cohesion in this situation?

The dynamics of a team relies heavily on the interaction of members of the team during times of crises and issues and problems not just during times of agreement. Often groups seek to achieve a cohesive relationship in an effort to unite the team towards its goals. Group members can make the mistake of subverting issues and problems in an attempt to maintain this team unity. Issues and problems serve a valuable role in effective group interactions that must be understood by participants of a team.

In the situation given in above scenario, the team leader has to develop team sprit among the members of the team and scene of belonging towards the organisation and the team, i.e. building of Organizational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) by communicating effectively in an influencing manner. Managing diverse workforce is complex, but the career management team of individuals is even more complex. When people from different walks of life gathered together there is a potential for outstanding achievement, but also can lead to conflicts. Our department and the group includes a diversity of age, ethnicity and gender, it is within our best practice to look at each individually, working to mobilize and support for each of the persons performance and management capabilities, and always maintain the integrity of the organization in which cultural awareness, sensitivity, fairness, respect and values of people in the first place. If any questions or problems arise due to the lack of diversity, language barriers, discrimination of any kind then they must be submitted to HR of the particular company.

What steps would you take to develop and maintain relationships?

In order to manage these relationships effectively, the organizations and team managers require a means to understand and improve global inter-cultural communications. The complexity of inter-cultural communications requires management to understand the nature of global relationships and the level of complexity and work force diversity when attempting to communicate with multiple partners each having unique national and organizational cultures. A decision process for developing effective inter-cultural communication strategies has to be developed and illustrates the necessary steps for managing a myriad of inter-cultural relationships including, different forums, and discussion with members of the team to understand different cultural value of employees from different backgrounds. It is our duty to ensure every member of our team and get the benefits of performance and career management plans and discussions and appropriate training necessary to perform their current job, whether it includes additional help or needs than others. Additional opportunities in education, skills, performance and promotion will be available for all employees. (LeClair & Page, 2008)
