The group was led by Vincent Oge who was a Dominican Black leader, a national hero and a Haitian revolutionist. After its creation in 1788, Brissot with the advice from Thomas Clarkson, Jacques-Pierre Brissot, led the Society of Friends of Black. In 1790, Vincent Oge succeeded in having sanctioned the abolition of slavery, but as the law was broken, he organized a seditious movement.
