Introduction

Currently, there is an ongoing debate over whether prison should be of rehabilitative in nature or not. There are two views on the reason/ purpose of prison, which includes compensation and rehabilitation. Some people have argued that the basic purpose of prison is to compensate the affectee, while others hold the view that the primary purpose of prison is to rehabilitate the convicted person, so that he can be a fruitful part of the society(Sullivan,Larry,1990).
