I have always had a fascination with the health field, and wanted to become a physician earlier. However, due to certain reasons I could not join the degree program. However, I have considered other options in the same field and have also done a personal assessment that shows that nursing would be a career suitable for me. Defined below are my goals and the action plan that I have devised for achieving these objectives.
Goal
My professional goal is to become a nurse. I have always been drawn to this field. A number of reasons account for this attraction.
A nurse is a person who has direct contact with ill people and patient and it has a very crucial role in saving people's lives. Nurses are the first people to find out that a patient's condition is deteriorating or getting serious. They are the ones who then inform the physician/surgeon. This facet of nursing attracts me because it is somewhat similar to the responsibility of a physician. I hoped to become a physician earlier. In earlier times, nurses did not have critical responsibility, and this was one flaw that resulted in the deaths of a lot of patients. But nowadays nurses are well-trained and able enough to take necessary action if they detect a deviation from normal in the patient's vital signs. Besides that the other reason that attracted me was that nurses help people in healing from within. Internal healing is vital to a person's overall health and wellness (Clark, 2008).
