Oracle Case Study

This case study is related to oracle, and taken from oracle website (Oracle.com, 2013). This case study deals with an IT solution that drastically helped improve manage the infrastructure of technology. The data of the companies is increasing at an amazing pace, which demands adding servers, databases, and applications for handling the new information. The cost of hardware, as well as, staffing increased greatly. The companies are increasingly becoming more technology based, and there was a need to tackle the problem of infrastructure management.

The companies can only enhance their technological capabilities by doubling their spending on IT (Negash, 2004). Oracle provides a solution that increases application performance, manages infrastructure complexity, and provides an opportunity for business growth, without the need to increase costs.

DIKAR is conventionally interpreted from left to right, and this model helps in understanding the working of a business. This case study can be viewed from the spectrum of a supply side. The company started with the collection and analysis of data, and then progressed through the stages of information, knowledge, actions and finally, the results. First of all, information and data was collected regarding the online databases and technological infrstructres. The problems associated were determined, and a system that was able to solve the prevailing issues developed. Action refers to the implementation of the system, whereby the data processing and storage enhanced. The result was efficient use of the system developed by Oracle. In this case study, the emphasis is more towards the data side, which means that technology is involved.

There were no organizational changes in Oracle, due to this new system, as Oracle is the developer, but the companies which will buy the system may face some changes. One company that deals with distribution and disaster recovery, this system of Oracle provided efficient recovery capabilities, and served as convenient backup resource.

The implementation of Exadata produced no significant risk to the companies. There were no performance problems reported; at least no problems were highlighted in the case study. The implementation of this system reduced the risk and cost associated with different processes, and increased efficiency (Rud, 2009). The development of this system will help improve the revenues and profits of Oracle.
