Introduction

The Bolton Wanderers Football Club, an English Premiership soccer team, is owned and operated by parent company Burden Leisure plc. Over 80% of Burdens revenue comes in through the soccer teams activities. The club is officially sponsored by Reebok, which provides the club with its jerseys and the name for its stadium. Reebok Stadium is a tubular steel construction that can seat 28,000 fans and has the facilities to host corporate events. The new stadium has a fully integrated hotel, the DeVere Whites Hotel, with 125 rooms. The stadium was built in 1997 after the team had spent about a hundred years at its old park, Burden Park. The Wanderers also have a ladies team that got under way in 1999 and currently plays games at Moss Park. As part of its community involvement initiative, the club offers in-term coaching, after-school courses, holiday courses, match day experiences and sponsored events. Over 20,000 children and adults took part in these events last year. The club offers WebTV and Live Radio accessible from its web site for around tour pounds per month. Fans get video match highlights, exclusive interviews, live radio commentaries and other match details. (Adams 2004, 60)

Bolton Wanderers enjoyed played its consecutive series of season by the end of 2004-5 season. Furthermore, Bolton also managed to make its way in the UEFA cup, which resulted in the accomplishment of its aim to 'enter Europe'. Their success was a result of distinctive set of strategies related to the management of their people, and how they increased their potential through significant investments, as compared to their competitors. These strategies played a vital role in the achievement of their objectives.

However, there was still a pay and reward package which was needed to be offered to the players and coaching staff. These costs were not much different from the industry average, but were some of the lowest in the Premiership.

Furthermore, Bolton wanted to make sure that each and every staff member felt that they were part of the Bolton group, but still, poor performance by staff members resulted in termination.

After the departure of Allardyce from the club, and most of his supporting staff, it needs to be determined if his replacement will continue on with the existing strategies or dispose them off.
