The increasing number of complaints about dirty restaurants in the community has really alarmed the concerned citizen task force. The members of citizen task force are vigilantly striving to come up with the most effective approach towards to ensure that food safety in the community is sufficient enough to maintain high standards of health and hygiene. Secondly, the mosquito population has grown immensely in the community making it greatly troublesome for the people to carry out their daily activities. The reported cases of sufferings from encephalitis and deaths caused because of West Nile Virus have also increased. The community task force has to devise effective measures for suppressing the malignant growth of mosquitoes in the community.
Question 1(a): Approach to Enhance Food Safety
The most effective and appropriate approach to upgrade and enhance the food safety in community would be to mandate food safety training requirement for all restaurant employees because this approach would highly contribute towards building a healthy community in the long run(Altekruse et al, 2007). The alternative methods like stronger enforcement program by the local health department would be beneficial just in the short run because the real need of time is to change the mindset of restaurant personnel that really drives them to confirm with the high standards of safe and hygienic food. The food safety training would be strictly implemented and no restaurant would be allowed to operate unless they obtain the necessary certification awarded after completion of the food safety training. The training would be targeted at every employee of restaurant in accordance with his respective work sphere. As the report of National Institute of Heath (2007) reveals that the most important prevention to foodborne diseases is to transform the behaviors of cooks and chefs dealing with food. So enriching the restaurant personnel with the significance of serving a safe food as a social responsibility and methods to be adapted for maintaining high level of food safety in their restaurant will radically curb the problems related with unhygienic food in the community.
