The industry of facility management is considered as part of support services, housing, cleaning, property and planning. From the year 1998, the number of employees working in this field is increasing. Today, the workforce of facility management constitutes around 3% of the total workforce of United Kingdom. The services that facility management provides are of a broader range. The services that facility management provides can be categorized as hard services and soft services. Hard services include protection of the environment, property and estate management, maintenance of buildings and management of energy. Soft services include care of customers, cleaning, reception and security. This is a flourishing industry but there are variegated factors that impede the development of this field. There is a lack of understanding about roles and responsibilities about the job also; there is a lack of awareness about the required education and qualification. As the years are passing there are changes taking place and the route to enter in this field is being defined (Evans 2008, 14).
