Determine how Five Guys philosophy sets it apart from other fast food chains

“Five Guys" was founded in 1986 in the United States by Jerry Murrell and his sons. Murrell shares the secrets that allowed him a small fast food for 50 people to grow to an extensive network of 670 franchise with annual sales exceeding $ 480 million: an exceptional attention to product quality, integrity, quality audit of the franchise, an effective incentive system, the rejection of advertising and modest decoration of the premises in order to emphasize the focus on the quality of their food. While, McDonalds advertise on billboards with luscious images saying “It's good to be at the top of the food chain” or “Beauty is in the hand of the beholder” (Horovitz, n.d).

Majority of the potatoes that they use come from Idaho - approximately 8% of the Idaho potato crop is consumed by Five Guys burgers and fries. They grow their potatoes crops in north of the 42nd parallel, which is not an easy task at all. Potatoes can be considered similar to oak trees - the slow they reap, the more solid they become. Five Guys prefer potatoes grown in the northern areas, because they are then reaped in the warm weather during day time, but then they stop at night when it cools down.

Most of the fast food chain stores use frozen fries, which are dehydrated. This means that if there is water stored in potato, it may splash when it is deep fried (Welch, 2010).
