Introduction

In the United States, entrepreneurship is rapidly increasing and experiencing high growth. US population becomes highly engaged in activities of entrepreneurship to about 12.3%. From 2010 to 2011, there was an increase of 60% in TEA (total entrepreneurial activity). Several businesses failed while other succeeded as entrepreneurship businesses. This increased trends increased or open door for people to flourish. Over 29 million US people who aged between 18 and 64 starting their entrepreneur journey. In addition, approximately 40% of these entrepreneurs likely to create at least 5 new job opportunities in near future, certainly within 5 years (Kuratko, 2012, pp.2-270). Young US populace is inclined to become entrepreneurs; for instance, growth of entrepreneurship was reported highest among people aged between 35 and 44 years, increasing from 0.35 to 0.40, in 2008 to 2009 (Schaper, Volery, Weber & Lewis, 2010, pp.4-132).

This paper examines entrepreneur journeys of two successful US based companies: Facebook and Google. The paper starts with a brief overview of both companies. This aim of this paper is to examine the incorporation of Facebook and Google, and then compare and contrast both companies, in terms of innovation, marketing communication, business models and others.

Facebook

Facebook is a service-oriented company, which offers means of communication (a social networking company) to people that operates across the world. The company is incorporated as Public company in 2004, and has headquartered in Menlo Park, California. The company develops a number of tools that allow users to communicate, discover, share and connect people via computers or mobile devices. Facebook Platform of the company refers to a set of application programming and development tools interfaces that allow web developers to work with Facebook to develop social websites and applications. Facebook serves to about 618 million users daily and had 1.06 billion per month, as of December 31, 2012 (Greening, Wall & Elias, 2012, pp.91-97). Trend Micro, Inc. is strategically partnered with Facebook, Inc. for protecting and educating users' digital lives beside malware and malicious websites.

Google

Google Inc is a multinational and US based corporation, deals in internet related products and service. Google is a public company, founded on September 04, 1998 and headquartered at Menlo Park, California. The key services include online advertising technologies, software, cloud computing and search. Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They met when Brin was given a project at the Stanford University. Both partners are computer graduates. By the year 1998, Google was recognized among “Top 100 Sites (Ács & Audretsch, 2010, pp.6-22).”

The mission of Google is “to organize information of the world and make it globally useful and accessible.” Google Inc. has emerged as the most recognizable and largest companies across the globe.
