Social media have developed into new channel of developing relationship with the consumers and customers. The domain of social media is based on freedom of speech and creates a PR nightmare for companies are criticized on micro blog, blogs or Facebook pages. These pages are developed and managed by other people and the company may be allowed to post or not. It has become necessary for the companies to monitor and develop their response for this negative publicity. Many people who watch a movie or TV program share their views about it with the people on the internet which can create both positive and negative following of the said entertainment production. Successful companies promote their upcoming flicks way before time on social media and develop a following in cyber space. It is imperative that entertainment industry utilize the opportunities of social media and incorporate their use in their marketing strategies.

While the for profit companies look towards enhancing their brand recognition besides other objectives, the non-profit companies are equally utilizing the social media for community activations, promotion of causes and collecting donations (FOX, 2010). The current internet scenarios have taken a new leap into the virtual world with the popularity of Face-book, twitter and YouTube besides other social media websites containing content ranging from audio, video to pictures and blogs (Tweeternet, 2010). Companies which fail to develop and maintain their social media presence often end up in losing their market position.

The new trends are significantly affecting the marketing strategies of the entertainment companies (Mint, 2012). Warner Bros are actively promoting their movies on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. These social media platforms allow them to connect with their audience and get them excited (Stelzner, 2009). Warner Bros used Facebook for the promotion of the last part of its famous series of Harry Potter. The response was phenomenal as the page received numerous visitors and received millions of likes. Currently the page has more than 49 million fans (Calderon, 2011). This shows how much potential of advertising these social media websites provide to the entertainment industry. It is evident that many media and entertaining companies are missing out on the opportunities provided by these crowd sourcing tools (Rimskii, 2011).
