Executive Summary

This paper principally elucidate upon the notion of implementing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system within a construction company namely Walton Construction Company. This integration is made in order to control the cost of construction and operations. In this contemporary business environment, enterprises have to cope strategically in every segment to cut the cost of business operation.

Increasing cost of operation is considerably the biggest problem for business in the competitive environment. The integration of ERP is a significant anticipation in the modern business models. Therefore, in this paper, the business model of Walton Construction is expanded with the incorporation of ERP, and it is considered to bring a positive change in the system of the organization.

For the implementation of the ERP model over Walton Construction, a research is designed to be conducted. The research comprised of both primary and secondary sources. Within primary research, surveys and direct mailing is used to engage respondents in the data collection process. Whereas, in the secondary data collection peer reviewed journals and various online libraries were browsed to collect authentic literary data. A thorough and comprehensive data is collected, with more than 2,100 respondents online and around 300 respondents offline. The comprehensive data collection has generated quality results.

The organizations in construction industry can obtain a number of benefits with the implementation of an ERP system along with the completion of project within time, with good quality, without crossing the budget limit and meeting the proper specifications provided by the owners of project or clients.

It is identified through the survey is that the support from the consultants of Enterprise Resource Planning system play an important role I the successful implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning system in an organization. It is also revealed that the quality of the ERP system is better than the traditional systems of managing data and information and it is easy to be used for enhancing and transmitting the data from the other systems to the Enterprise Resource Planning system. Another aspect is the perceived usefulness of the ERP system or the image of the organization that would be enhanced after the implication of an ERP system within it. Moreover, the results from the survey identifies that there is a strong need for management support especially the top management to provide the project planning and support to the users of Enterprise Resource Planning system.
