Task 1

The invasion of computer and communication technologies is changing many centuries-old traditional cultures in education, work, business and social interaction. Traditional cultures were designed based on the physical presence of participants at work places, in learning centers, in business environment and at social gatherings.

The advancement in communication and computer technologies and their penetration into life, work and society creates new cultures with a different set of characteristics and requirements. In the new culture, physical presence, nationality, distance, time, social status and ethnicity are not the main criteria for services, business, education and communication. In the new culture, global acceptance of resources and activities is the main concern for education, business and communication areas.

Computer and network technologies can do almost every imaginable thing in today's global society. They are exceptional for providing opportunities to learn, work, discover, generate knowledge, share knowledge, cooperate, collaborate and communicate. Technology is changing our physical-based society into a virtual-based society. In the new society, more than 90% of work forces will use some type of information technology, and more than 80% of services will be handled through an electronic information system. Global collaboration and participation will be major part of education and business. Lifelong learning and re-skilling are the basic requirements for prosperity in this new society. In the new networked society, people can shop; read journals; trade stocks; download multimedia information; share their thought and vision; chat with friends and family members and work and learn.

Telecommunication and networking are the hearts of both changes and developments. A basic knowledge of telecommunication and networking is essential for everybody, especially for professionals who have direct responsibility to plan, utilize and coordinate technology-based services and deliveries.

Communication:

In 1945, Arthur C. Clarke, a British visionary writer, published a paper in which he predicted the use of a satellite that matched the earth's rotation from orbit. His visionary paper created many new imaginations and works in telecommunication technology. After fifty years, humanity's intelligence, imagination and vision created a world without boundary, distance and limitation. The human journey through computer and telecommunication technologies has just started.

Telecommunication means a long-distance electronic communication between people or machines. Communication is the transmission of data and information through a communication channel. A communication channel (electronic pathway) is used to carry the signals of voice, data or video information. Channels are most often provided through wire cables, fiber optic systems or high frequency radio beams, such as those transmitted by microwave systems or satellites. The telephone system is the most common channel for communication. With the rapid advancement in communication technology and networking, the distinction between telecommunication and communication is getting more and more blurred.

The real progress in long-distance communication started in 1844, when Samuel Morse invented the telegraph, which made it possible to send long-distance messages. The next major step was in 1876, when Alexander Bell invented the telephone, which made it possible to communicate long-distance via voice. The development of the Internet created a virtual ...
