Introduction

English is considered to be the authorized language of US. This paper provides enough evidence and reasons to prove that English must be designated as the official language of US.

Scope and Nature of the problem

 Congressional interest in designating English as the official language of the United States has recently increased as a response to a perceived challenge to English as the common language in America. Consideration of official English proposals raises not only specific issues as to design, but also broader issues regarding the direction of social policy. With respect to proposal design, questions raised include whether to amend the constitution or enact an official English statute, whether to limit application only to official government business, and whether to address related areas such as bilingual education. Regarding the direction of social policy, questions include the need for an official language, whether individual expression would be infringed, and the effect on cultural diversity. This report provides background on contemporary efforts to declare English the official language, a review of selected issues raised by official English proposals in Congress, and a summary of arguments that have been advanced in favor of and in opposition to such proposals.

It is asserted that English must be taken as the official language of the United States of America for numerous reasons which have been presented in this research paper.

None of the 30 states with authorized English laws prohibit government bureaus from utilizing another language when there is a convincing public concern for managing so. (Goodin 2006) These include: defending public wellbeing and security, guaranteeing equality before the law, encouraging tourism, educating foreign languages, supplying for national protecting against, and numerous other legitimate, widespread sense needs." The government can proceed to supply these services when necessary. But, it is another thing solely for a civilian to demand these services as a right. Immersion is a very productive scheme utilized in university programs, where school scholars are dispatched overseas and immersed in a language. (Fishman 2002)Sometime, there is an obligation in these programs that scholars talk no English at all, and only the new language being learned. This is because immersion forces a one-by-one, under high force, to discover the language quickly.
