On many occasions we say then, that design is an idea, a project idea, the sketch of an idea, it is also simultaneously a solution to this problem so many times. Problem formulation: Define the problem broadly

Problem analysis: Detailing the problem

Finding solutions: alternative solutions through research, invention, inquiry etc

Decision: Assessment of alternatives to decide on the optimum

Specification: Detail writing of the chosen solution

Finally the design, which basically involves an idea, involves a general concept that aims to satisfy some individual need, collective or market whose most essential function is to create and / or optimize anything. The engineering design can be described as the process of applying the various techniques, methodologies and scientific principles to define a device, a process or a system (designed to meet a certain need) in sufficient detail to permit embodiment. When the technology application is complex and when the result is very abstract enters what is called Engineering Design (Chapman, & Pinfold, 1999).

Why Study the Design Process

According to the author in some companies management believes that there is a promising market for an information processing device, invented by one of its engineers. This unit will be managed by a doctor, and will help to diagnose human diseases, using all the variables likely the doctor enter, so that the database, and the odds that the diagnostician will eject analyzed by one or more physicians. Before jumping to execute that design, and start producing, management must be convinced that the appliance will work and will be well accepted in the market, but all the problems faced by the doctor are few really compared to those who challenge the person to develop the diagnostician, so that only a person with well-defined concepts will be able to make a good development or rather, to solve the problem, you obviously have to be an engineer who has better chance of dealing with the problem successfully (Ullman, 2002).

The engineering design process can help the organization to measure the overall costs of the final project, and the eminence of the final product, along with the time that will be taken by the engineers to develop the final product.
