Introduction
Employees hold crucial significance in any firm. Firms are required to hold high standards of employment relations in order to succeed. Employees prefer to work in organizations that have high standards of employment relations. As competition in every field has intensified worldwide, firms are looking towards attracting and retaining engaging and talent employees. This has developed into an issue that holds crucial significance for majority of the organizations across the globe. Organizations have recognized the fact that employees who are engaged engender higher levels of loyalty and customer satisfaction. Additionally, engaged employees are more productive and thereby become leaders in the success of the organization (Cook, 2008). If employees do not get engaged in their organizational affairs, they tend to neglect their work and do not show interest towards it.
The achievement of financial returns and business goals is getting heavily dependent upon delivery by employees who are front-line in nature. Employee engagement and commitment have developed into extremely crucial components of an organization. This is due to the reason that engagement and involvement of employees are connected strongly to the performance of business. Management of employment relations is central to good Human Resource Practice. Good employment relations lead to improved employee performance.
Tesco
Tesco is a multinational British grocery and general store. The supermarket chain of Tesco has its headquarters in the United Kingdom. It is the largest employer in the private sector of UK. It consists of a workforce of more than 492,000. Tesco operates in fourteen countries. Tesco has shown extremely high levels of success on international forums due to its high employment relation standards.
Employee Engagement & Involvement
Employee engagement has several definitions associated with it. Employee engagement can be defined as harnessing the employees of an organization to their roles of work. It is also defined as the amount of discretionary efforts that is exhibited by employees in their work roles (Kular et.al, 2008). Yet another definition of employee engagement states that the intellectual and emotional commitment of the employees towards their organization is employee engagement.
Employee involvement is defined as an environment in which employees directly impact and are encouraged to impact the activities and decisions in the working environment of the organization. Employee involvement entails involving employees in change-initiative, continuous improvement, and decision making activities.
The mechanisms that are typically used for engaging and involving employees in organizational affairs include joint consultation, project teams, and two-way communications. Additionally, partnership schemes, attitude surveys, and electronic media are also developing into crucial mechanisms for fostering employee engagement and involvement. Employees as well as managers of a firm are required to demonstrate enthusiasm regarding raising voice of employees.
