Introduction

The topic of employee engagement has remained of important concern in all the organizations around the world and organizations now involve their employees' at all strategic levels while main decisions are made. This contributes to the overall success of the organizations. The following paper identifies a few basic factors of employee engagement and how does it occupy an important position in the organizations.

Concept of Employee Engagement 

For many years now, the topic of employee engagement had been quite a hot topic within the corporate circles. The phrase 'employee engagement' has turned into a buzz phrase which has captivated the attention of all the HR managers, top level executives and also a number of workplace observers. It is actually that topic about which the employers as well as the employees think that they have understood it completely, but the truth is that the concept of employee engagement is not that easy to understand. There is a lot if misdirection and confusion as to what exactly is meant by employee engagement (www.custominsight.com). The basic cause of this misdirection and confusion is that there is a lack of agreement regarding the definition and also the measurement of the engagement of employees. Other than that, there also exists an absence of distinction from the rest of the closely related topics.

Employee engagement is seen by many as a combination or amalgamation of commitment and dedication to the organization and also its significance and its value and also willingness to support and help out the other colleagues of the organization (www.custominsight.com). The concept of employee engagement actually goes beyond the satisfaction of job and it cannot be classified as simply just only motivation or incentive. Literature Review

The conference board, in the year 2006, published and issued a report on employee engagement. All the major and basic studies based on employee engagement were discussed in this report (Soldati, 2007). According to that report, 12 main findings and studies had already been published over the last few years by some of the top and best research firms such as Towers Perrin, Gallup, Corporate Leadership Council, Blessing White and many others. A different definition of employee engagement had been used by all of these studies and researches. Collectively, all these studies came up with 26 key elements of engagement (Soldati, 2007). For instance, few of the studies focused on the underlying of cognitive issues while few studies focused on giving importance to emotional issues.

Later, the conference board overviewed over all the data which the different studies had came up with and eventually it came up with a combined and blended definition of employee engagement and some major key themes which covered the important factors ...
