Introduction

The use of computer can be seen in every field. In the field of medical, the use of computer was seen an exciting prospect, but it was commonly perceived as only a tool used for research purpose. According to Mason (2008), he states that the use of computers can be compare to the use of microscope in the field of medicine. The use of optical microscope in the 19th century made huge strides in the field of medicine in the field of medicine. The use of computer and IT will help in classifying and effectively managing the data and structuring the knowledge in information in such a way that can be used efficiently and effectively whenever required. It will help the effectiveness of human judgment, whether logical or statistical, and the use of it will be seen increasingly in the coming ages in the research and laboratory (Mason, 2008).

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) was quick to recognize the change in the modern technology, as they were responded with an evaluation of the internal process so that this technology could be incorporated where it is most needed in the field of medicine. According to Kibbe (2002), medical informatics is a developing field which would considerably support the management and structuring of the medical research, which would lead to better overall management and patient care. Kibbe provided the definition for medical informatics as assisted the professionals and researchers in the overall decision making process for patient care, which is the ultimate goal.

Collaborative strategies

The importance of medical informatics was recognized by several big organization and professional conferences were conducted regarding the importance of medical informatics in the field of medicine. Collective efforts were made by educational and commercial organizations, with aided help of the government for the development of medical informatics. These organizations and relevant authorities put all their efforts and their finances to explore the potential that was visible in the use of medical informatics. Through the efforts of American Medical Association (AMA), The Computer and the Medical Record was put into place in 1966 which would further explore the potency of computers in the field of medicine (Kibbe, 2005).

AMA was keen in their efforts towards the digitization of their research, and thus they further formed several subcommittees to research into the field of medical informatics. Individuals, who had a keen interest in the field of medical informatics and duly recognized its importance in the field of medicine, started participating in the organization and committees towards the development of the project. To accelerate the progress of medical informatics, the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) was formed, with the sole purpose of devoting their efforts towards the development of medical informatics. The same foundation in United States was formed with the name of American Federation for Information Processing (AIFIP). AIFIP proved to be very beneficial in the development of medical informatics as it presented with structure of the whole setup (Bailyn, ...
