It is critical that the quarantine procedures, and medical procedures be followed during the outbreak to prevent the spreading of the disease in the community

Quarantine is the act of isolating or removing people or animals for a period, to prevent or limit the risk of spreading a particular disease contagious. The older forms of insulation known effective are those mentioned in the Pentateuch (Bible) more than 3400 years, which followed the advice, especially in the case of leprosy. The risk of transmission of diseases that affect the lives and health of people and animals, as a result of the mobilization and trade requires the establishment of harmonized measures and procedures on animal quarantine.

The new Quarantine Act provides laws that are both robust, flexible and modern that will enable us to react quickly to prevent the import and export of communicable diseases. This modernized version of the law is one of the measures taken by the Government in the light of lessons learned from SARS.

The legislation would repeal and replace the existing Quarantine Act, which has remained virtually unchanged since its adoption in 1872. It would apply to people entering or leaving in a country and conveyances (airplanes, cargo ships, etc.)
