Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the impact technology integration in schools has on the academic achievement of school students. This study provides helpful information about the necessity of integrating technology into schools. While this research field is still in its infancy, this study suggests the impact of technology has on academic achievement.

RE: Educational Planning and Development: Technological Influences

Introduction

In the last decade, the schools in America have considerably increased investment on technology in the classrooms of more than $ 5 billion a year, as there has been an extensively held belief by educational, business, and governmental leaders, which cabling schools, hardware and software purchasing, and distribution of equipment throughout will direct to plentiful classroom use by students and teachers and improving learning and teaching (Cuban, Kirkpatrick & Peck, 2001). During recent era, increasing number technologic opponents in the classroom have elevated their voice regarding what type of schools has achieved a return on this investment. Cuban et. al., have been immediately pointed out that their research surveys indicate that less than 20 percent of teachers employ technology a number of times in a week and half of all teachers not using technology. Moreover, if teachers use technology, Cuban remarked a number of employees of these tools in ways that enhance learning and teaching. Most of the time, he said, sustained use instead of altering existing teaching practice patterns (Cuban, Kirkpatrick & Peck, 2001).

United States huge investment in technology in the classroom give the impression and become more discussable when politicians, educators and parents search for proof regarding the impact on students achievement. Proponents of technology in education persist to consider that technology will have a positive impact on academic achievement; however, apt to depend on anecdotal evidence regarding student development and motivation of critical thinking skills to sustain this belief. They have been enforced to rely on observations and faith in a large measure for the reason that, there is still less scientific evidence to evaluate the technology effectiveness, said John Bailey, Educational Technology Director for the United States Education Department.

Discussion

Literature Review

Recently, an increasing number of researchers have published studies that endow with meaningful evidence that technology can play a constructive role in academic achievement. A number of organizations like Edutopia, the Center for Applied Research in Educational Technology (CARET) and the North Central Regional Education Laboratory (NCREL) are documenting research that link technology to enhance in academic achievement. Other two studies are an indication of the increasing amount of research on the role of technology in academic achievement (Becker, 2006).

In recent times, large scale researches about information use in schools (Educational Testing Service, 1998; Panel on Educational Technology, 1997; & Becker, 1994) have precipitated public discussion about the effectiveness of employing technology to prop up teaching and have emphasized the want for professional advancement in this area. Despite the fact, that highlighting the need for professional development and identifying to the association between it and ...
