Educational Philosophy

Abstract

Education is one of the most important aspects of human life for a prosperous society. Here, the contributions made to education by philosophy cannot be ignored. Educational philosophy has evolved over a period of time and requires the researchers and the educators to give it a comprehensive view so that the philosophical aspect to education is retained in the future also. This paper addresses issues discussed contemporarily, seeking a greater understanding of the philosophical education. In an attempt to propose an understanding of the problem that turned the Philosophy of Education, the study analyzes the discussions that are controversial between analytic and continental studies, recognizing thoughts and subjective idealist philosophical tradition. The aim is to reflect on the theoretical and methodological approaches used in these discussions, identifying the contributions that hermeneutics, pragmatism and the philosophy of language made to education, signaling the need to develop changes in modes of thinking and managing training. In defense of a production semantics for the philosophical study in the process of teacher training, text demarcates some criticisms of the philosophy of education to be directed only to philosophy, reporting the claim to rediscover the subject in educational language. The study aims to identify philosophical discussions of the most current Western world intending to encourage the implementation of proposed major theoretical frameworks of thought, enabling the audience to rethink the model of traditional pedagogy in the light of new evaluation criteria, developing through language giving a new spirit to the study of philosophy of education. This reopening helps in the rethinking of the image of contemporary philosophy and its educational implications.

Discussion

Worldview of education

The philosophy of education in recent times transcends its limits conceptually, venturing in contemporary philosophical discussions that provide the articulation between different theoretical perspectives. The discipline, previously restricted to philosophy continent began to experience the advantages and disadvantages of philosophical shifts when Americans began engaging in continental versus analytical discussions. Here, the pragmatic-linguistic contributions of Rorty and Habermas can lighten concerns developed within the philosophy of education, awakening new meanings to the philosophical study in education. Discussing the assumptions of practical language, authors develop commonalities, valuing life and everyday experiences (Brennen, 1999). From these concepts is undertaken knowledge where man is called as sensitive, helping him in discovery process again, giving purpose to attempts to establish an order in cultural and educational activities.

The research does not intend to establish two different ways to train teachers philosophically, but seeks to arouse reflection on the two major theoretical perspectives discussed worldwide with its implications. While Rorty thinks philosophy as a driver of pragmatic discussion of current problems, without concern for truth or with the issues rose by the history of philosophical thought, Habermas emphasizes historiography and reconstruction, ...
