Educational Inequality

Abstract

This research examines education and sociology by using theories, surveys, articles and journals. Undergraduate and Adult Education students were studied by observation and answers to surveys on various different issues such as: nature of the class, income, family influence, and social inequalities. It is predicted that the students who have a strong support system (family, friends, counselors, teachers, etc.) are more likely to complete high school, go to college, get a job and “live the American Dream”. It is found that sociological and economical support has a direct effect on the traditional student versus the non-traditional student. Poverty levels and attitude towards education are also important factors in assessing thinking about education. The assessment to the educational condition of the country gives knowledge about educational structures. It can then be used to implement new methodologies to improve the situation.

Educational Inequality

Introduction

There is an increase in educational inequality in the United States. It is part due to the demand of people having various levels of education. The system can accommodate learned and educated population up to a certain level. A demand for more education is created by itself when there is technological advancement especially in the production departments of organization. Less educated persons have to choose to gain education if it profits them clearly and easily. As the number of more educated people starts to increase, the need for more educated people increase in the longer run as processes tend to improve and there is also a technological advancement at the micromanagement level. It does tend to decrease the demand of more educated people in the shorter run though (Troyna 2012).

This paper determines the problems in the education system and analyzes those using theories of sociology. These theories point out different troublesome areas in the education system of the country. A solution to these problems is also addressed. The paper gives advice about taking steps which in future cater these indifferences and create much better parity between different cultural groups of the society.

Inequality and Education

Education is a key ingredient for the overall growth of a country. National development is a direct resultant of the quality of education in a country. Better education provides better future leaders and workers. This in turn provides a better and more secure future for any social institution. To achieve equality in the field of education, many nations adopt different methods for improvement. These efforts have yet not provided fruitful results in the United States and much work is needed for the improvement of the education sector. Ethnic minorities in the United States are suffering from the inequality in education. There is a direct relationship between this and economic growth. Countries having a better equated educational system are developing at a quicker pace than regions where the educational inequality is a major concern (Foster et. al. 1996).
