Educational challenges pertaining to instructional strategies

Introduction

Every academic session teachers have to face the challenge of running their classes in a very smooth order. It is essential for the teachers to make sure that their students are on the right track, when it comes to learning. The teachers must be capable of looking for ways for keeping the students on their (student's) right behavior, (Goodlad, 1990). The teachers must design proper strategies and ensure proper implementation of these strategies, pertaining to teaching and most importantly, discipline. Managing classrooms these days are a much greater threat than it was in the forgone years. Nowadays, many students challenge the very authority of the teaching staff. Classroom management traditional approaches were largely based on punishments and rewards. Those approaches don't turn out to be effective these days, according to the experts, (Govindasamy, 2001).

Teaching and learning must start by considering the various complexities of the human brain. The abilities and the power of processing information in the various parts of the brain cause learning experiences which are different for each student. Thus resulting in a very unique abilities to retain, prevailing among the students, (Grant, 1996). The teaching style must reflect the sheer variety inherent in the students. Learning simply evolves to display the growth from childhood learning into an active learning, as human develop intellectually. The brain is always in a desire for receiving information in ways that are novel, in most of the cases. A teacher, who considers himself as a good instructor, will work for engaging the students in the growth of learning to that of the student's surroundings, their existing intellectual maturity and the students' existing knowledge, (Kajitani, 2012).

Discussion

Journal Week One:

Chapter one in this lesson was very informative as it gave an in-depth discussion about how important the brain is in teaching and learning. I recently finished a class on “Brain Based Learning” by, Eric Jensen and learned about the components of the brain and how learning takes place. In the chapter one the author asked a question “do all children learn the same” and the answer is no. There many factor to why student don't learn at the same pace one is environment, Stress and distress in the brain. When we talk about stress we must realize that all stress are not bad there are also good stress called eustress that occurs in short burst. Eustress happens when we are challenged and we have the belief that we can meet the challenge our releases chemicals like cortisol and adrenaline which increases our motivation to learn.

However the negative form of stress occurs when we feel threaten, intimidated, embarrassment and fear. In a classroom and in a school there are so many threats like bullying, intimidation and embarrassment although student doesn't learn at the same pace because of growth and maturity distress and stress could be a barrier to learning. We as educators must create an environment that is conducive to learning whether ...
