Introduction

Grades are the end result of the journey that student has passed during the course of its class. It has to be seen that most of the times, they are treated as vague marks on the report card and not much context and relevance is given to the fact that how these grades were achieved. Grades as supposed measures of the way student is progressing in the class and what efforst are needed to be taken in order to bring an improvement in the student. But there is major flaw in the grading system as that sometimes they are treated as the only yardstick of the skill and acumen of the student. They are based on the written work that is reproduced by them. Thus there is no element of subjectivity in these results, so this is one thing that is needed to be done as far as the whole grading system is concerned that more subjectivity must be brought into the whole subject.

Assessment of the Students

Other than the tried and tested methods of the assessment of the students, there must be some other techniques as well that must be brought into the perspective. There is no denying that there is lot of weight age behind the rational measures of the assessment, but by being more creative with the ideas and taking the whole thing rather more differently would certainly help. For instance, it is extremely helpful that due consideration must be given to the projects and assignments that are designed in a manner that test the knowledge and skill set of the student in a more rounded manner. There can be many innovative methods to do so. For instance, letting the students inspect the water quality of the nearby pound is something that is needed to be done and it certainly helps. Another such activity that might be extremely helpful is that of making a building or a tangible project which gives a better opportunity to the students.

Standard Based Report Card

There are many implications of developing a standard based report card for an educator. One of the basic purpose is that it helps as far as keeping the record of the students as well as making sure that are their prospective purposes are fulfilled (Segall, 2001). There are sometimes provincial or even state implications when one talks about the preparation of the report card. One thing that must be voided thought that sometimes educators put too much focus on the overall fine tuning of the standards that is the part of their system. It has to be kept in mind as well that including too many standards into the report card is something that must be avoided. There must be few and precise standards that must be used to gauge the ability of the student.
