Why do girls achieve better results that boys

Why do girls achieve better results that boys

Introduction

Historically speaking there is no doubt that females have previously faced strong obstacles in every aspect of their lives and that has mostly prevented these females to access education at all levels. For example, educational performance of girls during the period of 1960s to 1970s was poor because of lack of exposure as compared to boys (OECD, 2011).

For instance, an effective example from the United Kingdom will give evidence of the above-defined scenario. During the beginning of O level examination in 1970s, the participating ratio of girls as compared to boys was extremely low but the amazing aspect was that the ratio of students passing the O level examination was equal (Holmlund et al, 2005).

Further, among the girls that passed the first O level examination in year 1970 most of them left the education due to several factors like marriage, family heritage and others. However, approx ten percent of the girls continued their education and took admission in higher degrees, but were much lesser in numbers than boys were. (Holmlund et al, 2005).

(Holmlund et al, 2005) further describes that with the passage of time society has relaized the importance of providing girl's equal opportunities of getting proper education.

In addition, to this the current issue of increase in the performance level of girls as compare to boys is unbelievable to the people around them. As during the past few years, girls are observed to achieve better results than boys in the final examinations of schools, while it is also observed that the performance of boys is better from girls in standardized test like class test, monthly test and others (Holmlund et al, 2005).

The performance of students are normally judged through their test scores, grades and other forms of grading system in schools, but the problem is that all these forms of judging the performance of an individual are unauthenticated as they produce different result every time. (Holmlund et al, 2005) further describes that The Most common problem found in these grading procedures is that if there is difference in their results then people start to think that the authorities are biased and not producing results on merit (Holmlund et al, 2005).

The current issues of girls are outperforming boys in every aspect of school life like in exams, participation in competition, and class participation is becoming the most discussed topic. Further, this issue is being described by different scholars in different ways for instance, according to some scholars girls are performing better because they are much more disciplined than boys in almost every aspect of life are. While some argue that evaluating boys based on schools reports is not fair, and according to some theories boys are not performing according to their capabilities (OECD, 2011).
