Introduction

The chosen articles for the studies are “Learners' evaluation of a navigation support tool in distance education” by Bolman, C., Tattersall, C., Waterink, W., Janssen, J., van den Berg, B., Van Es, R., et al. And, “on doctoral student development: Exploring faculty mentoring in the shaping of African American doctoral student success” by Felder, P.

Research Aims and Objectives

This dissertation aims to find out the theories and the theorists of the given articles. This study will describe the basic tenets of the identified theories and analyze the relationship between the two theories.

Significance of the Study

This study highlights the theories on the education system of doctoral programs and gives information about the theorists and the creed of the theories in context of education.

Research Questions

This study will answer the following questions in order to determine the use of the theories identified.

Does the author identify one overarching theory by name?

Does the author provide information about the development of this theory?

Does the author give examples of how the theory has been used previously?

Does the author advance propositions or hypotheses that are based on the theory?

Does the author identify the independent and dependent variables?

Does the author state how the independent and dependent variables are related?

Does the author provide a rationale for why the variables are related this way based on the logic of the theory?

Article A: Learners' evaluation of a navigation support tool in distance education

Theory focused in this article is Social Cognitive Theory derived by Bandura in 1986. The work of Bandura experienced a marked success for many years. It was first celebrated in the area of social learning and now they are today with a sense of personal efficacy. But these hot concepts are used mainly by their integration into a theoretical whole experienced. The Social Cognitive theory inspires research and application in areas as diverse such as psychology and clinical pathology, education, health, work or sport. Social cognitive theory is based on the concept of interaction. As Banda States that not enough to consider the behavior as a function of reciprocal effects of factors and environmental personnel on each other but the interaction must be taken as a reciprocal determinism personal factors, environment and behavior.
