Background of the study

In recent years, the Internet has become a new channel for the commercialization of products conventionally sold through traditional outlets; according to the Forrester Report, the volume of UK online retailing will grow from £172 billion in 2005 to £329 billion in 2010. Electronic commerce (e-commerce) requires little additional investment by companies (a website is sufficient) and facilitates access to markets previously considered as out of reach. Many companies have been built upon an exclusively electronic system of sales and, unlike the offline market, have employed a weak e-business strategy. This has led to serious tactical errors which have caused many firms to fail (Phan, Chen, & Ahmad, 2005). Numerous authors consider that the design of a quality website is a key aspect of e-business strategy (Cao, Zhang, & Seydel, 2005; Frost & Strauss, 2002; Turban, McLean, & Wetherbe, 2002) since this is the principal medium of communication to interact with current and potential customers. Thus, success in the virtual market requires firms to correctly manage technology and the information provided on its website.

HAHU Ltd is an all-encompassing organisation that offers graphic design, print solution and integrated motion graphics from Small to Medium Enterprise (SMEs) based in and around London area. The owner is seeking a new e-commerce website to showcase their expertise in this field and allow customers to shop from their collection online.

The problem facing HAHU Ltd is how to provide a development infrastructure that can allow users to change content without the assistance of developers, and how these systems can provide easier development for programmers and database administrators. Furthermore, HAHU Ltd that needs to receive ecommerce content from multiple users at different locations without having to submit them to programmers for retrofitting into the existing Web screens. Indeed, static Web sites are expensive to maintain, difficult to update, and do not support the flexibility that is needed to provide competitive ecommerce on the Internet. With the average business Web site having over 8000 pages of HTML and graphical components, content management systems provide an attractive new way of building Web sites while reducing costs.
