Discussion
Traditional Training
Traditional training is a type of training in which a course is delivered at a physical location. This course is conducted by a course instructor with participants in the classroom. Various tools for support are used in such a form of training. Charts, PowerPoint presentations, whiteboards, and meetings are a few examples of such tools. Compelling and useful materials are provided to the learners for reference purpose.
Traditional training methods
Presentation methods
In presentation methods, instructors present information, processes and problem-solving methods to the trainees. Lectures, guest speakers, panels or presentations are used to communicate information to the trainees. Besides this, slides and videos are used for the improvement of learner`s communication and interviewing skills (Noe, 2005).
Hands-on methods
Hands-on training method is required to provide the trainees with hands-on experience on the equipments. This method of training includes on-the-job training, case studies and simulations. This helps the employee in earning money and learning at the same time.
Group building methods
Group building methods are used to motivate employees to work in teams. Such trainings help in improving skills of trainee individually as well as from a team`s perspective. Trainees share thoughts and experiences, get to know interpersonal dynamics and understand his, and his co-worker`s strengths and weak points (Noe, 2005).
Technology-based Training
In technology-based training, various types of electronic mediums and information technologies are used for training purposes. Such an environment of training supports teaching as well as learning part of trainings. Technology-based training is also referred to as computer-based training or web-based training.
Strategies for technology-based training
Trainers must formalize a strategy to initiate technology-based training of employees. Trainers should understand the organization`s objectives and the current information technology strategy to ensure that the new strategy is in accordance with current efforts and is cost-effective (Anonymous, 1999).
