SUMMARY

It is widely accepted that in relation to young people, organisations have a duty of care,

The cadet forces are voluntary, military based organisations promoting the personal and social development of young people. The focus is on bringing adventure and enjoyment with a view to steering cadets towards responsible citizens. Within the cadet forces, the safety and welfare of the young people is of paramount importance. Child Protection is at the core of all regulations, and is a major part of the adult volunteer's training at every level. We, as volunteers, must look after the welfare and safety of our cadets and can only do so by attending crucial training and monitor updates in relation to our responsibilities.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the safety guidelines followed while providing ACF trainings. The objectives of this study are to study the guidelines in order to clearly develop an understanding about the steps and statements. Furthermore, the research also examines the qualifications and legal aspects that are a part of these guidelines.

I have studied the guidelines covering the responsibilities it lays down. Studying the Cadet Training Safety Precaution pocket book which provides an on the spot reference for all ACF adults whenever they are training cadets and summarises their particular responsibilities concerning the cadets/adults. This pocket book must be carried by each adult at all times, or the volunteer could be stopped from training. The research will further investigate the qualifications that are required to acquire by ACF leaders.

I have chosen this topic as I wanted to give my cadets a safe environment. This could only be done by analysing the guidelines that are currently being followed and assessing whether they are appropriate and completely being followed or not. I want to identify what should be done and what should not be done by the cadets.
