Drugs Addiction

Answer 1

Drug Addiction is a relatively recent construct in a social phenomenon. That is, regardless of the use of psychoactive drugs for many years, drugs only became a social trouble when the working of a member of a specific group or the actions of the group itself became weakened through another's drug-taking activities. Therefore, drug addiction evolved through the impact and interconnectedness which anyone's behavior has on another.

In the pre-literate period, people knew and used the psychoactive chemical substances including drugs, alcohol, and plants, consumption of which affected their mind. Archaeological research has shown that in 6400 BC people knew some beer and other alcoholic beverages. Throughout the history, the contacts between distant cultures occurred through trade and war. For example, the Crusades and travels of Marco Polo Europeans learned the opium and hashish, which are widespread in the East. Later, traveling Europeans (mainly British, French, Portuguese and Spanish) to America brought a new discovery. Basic drugs were brought to Europe from America including cocaine (from South America), and various hallucinogens (Central America) and tobacco (North America). Studies have shown that there was a bilateral cross-cultural exchange.

Europeans started coffee drink in the 17th century; sailors brought coffee beans to South America, which is now a major global producer of coffee. Add that to America from Europe came to alcohol, obtained by distillation, and in Chile in 1545 there was hemp. Until the early 20th century there were almost no restrictions on the production and consumption of drugs. Sometimes, attempts were made to reduce or ban the use of certain substances, but they were short and usually unsuccessful. For example, tobacco, coffee and tea were initially met with hostility Europe. There are also cases where the state does not prohibit drugs, but rather contributed to the prosperity of their trade. In the twentieth century in Europe and America used almost the same drugs. Interestingly, many new or well-forgotten old drugs were first utilized in the United States, and then they spread to other countries, so that America is as if the roost in the international drug (Goldstein, 2001).
