Introduction

New Orleans is one of the major cities in the United States of America that comes in the state of Louisiana. The crime report that is published each year shows a decline in crime. If we look at the data from the past ten years, it can be seen that the changes made by the government in the policy framework as well as increased use of technology in crime investigation has played its role in deterring crime to a great extent. The most prevalent decrease in crimes can be seen in the violent crimes as well as the crimes related to property. This is a real feat as the trend is not the same in all the states in US. these are illustrated in the graph hereunder (CityRating, 2012).

Drug Use

During the 1970s and the 1980s, the government in the United States of America rages a war against drugs like heroine, crack, cocaine, and others. This was the response to an alarming increase in drug related crimes or crimes committed by drug addicts both within and outside the drug courts. The increase in the number of drug using offenders and criminals led to the implementation of the first drug court in the year 1989. The total number of drug courts in the United States of America today is more than 1100. These courts are engaged in providing services to about 230,000 criminals. However, the extent of effectiveness of these is not known or is not clear (Bjelopera & Finklea, 2012).
