Drug Trafficking Organizations in Columbia and Role of Women



Abstract

This study provides the information about the drug trafficking in Columbia and the organizations that are involved in this illegal business. The main focus of this study is on the means for trading these drugs and measures of national and international organizations to prevent this illegal trade. The main focus of this study is the women involved in this business. The women played major role in the expansion of this illegal trade all over the world.

Introduction

Drug trafficking is one of the growing concerns all over the world which has attracted the attention of all the law agencies to resolve this issue and to control this illegal trade. According to United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime UNODC (2012) drug trafficking is an illegal trade which involves the “cultivation, manufacture, distribution, and sales of substances which are subject to drug prohibition laws”. This involves the illegal trading of drugs all over the world. This requires strict monitoring of the international trade markets and other countries which are involved in supply of these all over the world. Despite strict restrictions there are a large number of people involved in this business over the globe. There are different means and routes for this illegal trade. It is provided that there are illegal drug markets operating very actively all over the world and event that there are strict restrictions and tights controls even then people all over the world are involved in this business. It is also required that there are different means to assess and check these people by tracking the channels of this trade. It is the only effective means through which large numbers of people are caught during the illegal trading of drugs. According to Central Intelligence Agency CIA, there are a large number of people involved in the drug trafficking the main countries are Afghanistan, Burma, Cambodia, Columbia, Thailand and different other countries. All these Countries involved in supplying large amount of heroine and other forms of drugs in the market. There are consumers of these drugs in all over the international market. The more consumer it possess it requires more amount to be transferred to these markets. Due to the strict restrictions these dealers and organizations involved in drug trafficking face difficulty in transferring these drugs to international market. This requires seeking different means for trading their drugs into international market. One of thee means is to use women for their trade as the safer means and avoid checking. Columbia is mainly involved in this business and there is large number of illegal organizations involved in drug trafficking and using women as a means for transfer.
