Drug Trafficking In the United States

Introduction

Drug trafficking can be described as the trade of illicit drugs such as heroin, cocaine, opium etc. In other words, trading of drugs without the permission of the concerned authorities is considered drug trafficking. Drug trafficking is globally an illegal activity which is prohibited all across the world and committing of such prohibited activity is a crime. It is a multistage activity that lies in the cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, control of markets, selling of illegal drugs and gaining profits by these activities. Drug trafficking in United States is a serious issue, and the U.S government is utterly devoted to fighting against this crime and to stop its expansion all across the globe (Bauder, 2008).

The United States federal government is the biggest and strongest opponent of such activities and abides by the International laws and standards set to fight against drug trafficking. Today, the problem of drug trafficking and the use of it has developed into a more serious issue in the United States. The use of illicit drugs and crimes related to it are becoming more and more significant and affects the moral values and the psychosomatic atmosphere of the society. Besides, it depressingly affects and dents the economy, politics and law on a national basis. It appears that, North America is the biggest manufacturer of marijuana all over the glove, however it has been observed that due to the market being isolated the drug produced is consumed on the local level. Other big share of marijuana arrives from the city of Mexico and Canada (www.unesco.org, 2012). South America is considered to be the biggest region for drug trafficking and hence it effects United States on a much larger scale.
