Introduction

Drug trafficking is a global illicit trade involving the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale of substances which are subject to drug prohibition laws. UNODC is continuously monitoring and researching global illicit drug markets in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of their dynamics. (www.justice.gov).

Discussion and Analysis

Drug trafficking is a very lucrative venture involving white-collar crime, including money laundering and political corruption. Define as the illegal movement of drugs across the border. Major drug trade unions are now the same way as other multinational companies in terms of size, resources, and complexity make this transport system. Although these drug criminals become more sophisticated, law enforcement has been slow to adapt to changes in the structure of white-collar crime (Fazey, 2010).

Structure of the Practice

The growth of drug trafficking says the increase in the number of seizures of narcotic substances. For example, in 2000, 94 states have declared 1,289,919 cases of detention of drug users, while in 2001 - 82 State of the 1,152,799 cases. Based on the fact that the increase of this index for 63 countries in 2001 amounted to 5.5%, the UN experts suggest boundary and global increase in the number of facts of drug seizures. According to expert estimates, their set was supposed to exceed 1.36 million.

Drug trafficking involves many trades: agriculture, chemistry, trading on the export, logistics and transport, import, inventory management, distribution, marketing, money laundering. It generally functions as the other markets of raw materials except for two characteristics: the prohibition and the inelastic demand to prices, which help to maintain high prices and therefore higher profits in other markets, making it attractive activity. In developed countries, the segmentation of the market is growing.

The bulk of these revenues have benefited the organized crime profiting the required procedures for money laundering. It should be noted that drug trafficking is part of a set of illegal practice (arms trafficking, trafficking for labor, etc.)

Drug Trafficking Generates Instability in Transit Countries

The drug world becomes increasingly complex, and the countries used as transit routes for illegal trafficking, suffer from "unstable", according to the latest "World Drug Report 2010" prepared by the UN.

The complex study of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, is part of the efforts of this agency to publicize the situation that exists in the world in terms of drug trafficking and how they affects today's societies.

The report notes that drug trafficking and instability in the countries of "transit" had a negative impact mainly in the area of "Northern Triangle" of Central America.

The region which is most affected is the northern triangle of Central America: Guatemala. In it, the acute ferocity caused by drugs has posed a serious challenge for governance.
