Abstract

In current situation, drug abuse is considered as a critical health problem. Drug abuse and its dependencies are the main causes of different health, social and environmental issues. Drug abuse increases criminal activities, spread of HIV infection and various other diseases, deaths on and off the road, medical expense and troubles for local communities. The main harm of drug is the prolonged personal risk but it further turns out to be a societal problem when the money means of fulfilling drug desire is involving in the criminal activity. This drug abuse negatively affects the society that can be observed by drug related accidents and crimes and with the rise of medical costs and health insurance. This paper is based on the research of a specific social problem that is caused by drug abuse.

Introduction

Drug abuse is a severe problem faced by various countries. Researches and surveys show that drug abuse results approximately 40 million serious injuries and illness among people in United Sates. Drug addiction has negative impacts on society as well as on the life of an individual. It may harm unborn babies due to drug addicted parents and may also destroy the entire family. It is commonly assumed that drug abusers do not quit drug in take because of less will power. In reality, drug addiction is a complicated disease and quitting takes more than a strong will or good intentions. Drugs change the brain in ways that foster compulsive abuse, giving up is difficult, even for those people who really want to quit it (Corman, 2012).

Social Problem

Drug abuse is the major social issue which is greatly effecting and destroying the entire society. One of the major social problems that are caused by drug abuse is the involvement of youngsters in criminal activities. In the current situation youngsters are extremely involved in drug abuse. This may cause serious health and mental issues to the youngsters. When people become addicted to drug, it becomes very difficult of them to quit this habit. Drug is essentially desired by their body. With this frustration, they get involved in depression and in order to fulfill their drug desire they commit crime. They get involved in criminal activities and destroy the peace of the society (Baker, 2004).

This Problem Qualified As a Social Problem

This problem of criminal activity is qualified as social problem because the main harm of crime is faced by the society. Drug users commit different criminal activities. People of the society do not feel them secure and they suffer through anxiety and stress of being insecure. The overall environment of the society is disturbed with it (Sussman and Susan, 2013).
