Abstract

The purpose of this assignment is to go to the website of NIDA and select a drug and then to write about that drug from a particular perspective. For the purpose of this assignment the drug that is selected is marijuana. The particular aspect that is covered in this assignment is about the legalization of marijuana. The paper presents argument related to why marijuana should be legalized. The first reason that this paper presents is about freedom. The concept of freedom is prevalent in American society so people should have right to choose what they want to eat, drink or consume. Another reason that is presented in favor of legalization of marijuana is that one cannot lessen the usage of drug through law, rules and regulation. This imposes a threat that consumers may move towards other much more dangerous drugs. Characteristics of the Drug

The famous dictionary defined Marijuana as dried leaves and flowering tops of the pistil which had a late hemp plant and yielded THC and was smoked in cigarettes because of their invigorating result. The definition did not provide a proper meaning as the word “intoxicating” means that it is bad and referred as painkillers. They are usually considered exhilarating but still provide benefits to the people that suffer from numerous pains. The other reason is that marijuana is an invigorating leave, but also leads to several benefits for the people.

Current Trends of the Drug

The laws that have relation prohibition of marijuana can produce a negative impact on the overall society. Peaceful citizens are also turning themselves towards criminal activities because of the over usage of marijuana. Actually, since the enforcement of prohibition of marijuana in 1937, there is an estimated 55,000 users in the United States of America. This number faced an increment of around 30 million in 2002 which led to more than 734,500 police arrests. There were many people who believed that marijuana should have a legal status in United States because of the large number of reasons. Though, numerous individuals believe that making the marijuana legal can promote the usage of marijuana. However, it should be legalized as it will decrease the large amount of recourses which are being devoted to the execution, and increase our revenues countries. There are also numerous advantages which can be discovered which will assist the individuals if marijuana is legalized. Liberty is one of these countries foundations, as said by Thomas Jefferson. He believed that people usually claim that their rights are derived from the nature of law and not in the form of gift for their chief magistrate.
