Introduction

The current research work presents the elements of safe driving and also elaborates upon the types of distraction that can occur during driving. These distractions have become a cause of different accidents and deaths globally and this has made it a vital issue to be studied and considered. This distraction may be cognitive, manual or visual. It refers to being involved in using mobile phone, reading, or eating while driving and such activities are likely to divert driver's attention from the road.

Research Aims and Objectives

The current research is conducted with an aim to discover the causes that are most likely to impact the safety during driving in an adverse manner. The primary objective of research is to analyze such factors and the types of distraction that are countered by the drivers while driving.

Distracted driving refers to an activity that is more likely to draw driver's attention from the road and may include using cell phone, eating or keeping track of the toddlers on back seat.

Types of Distractions

The three main types of driving, as explained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, include:

Visual Distraction: hindrances that cause the driver take their eyes off the road;

Manual Distraction: distractions that make drivers take their hands off the wheel; and

Cognitive Distraction: the distractions that divert drivers mind and attention from driving (Johnson, 2012).
