Dream Consolidation is a process of strengthening the short term memory to encode them to long term memory. The memory which is meant to be remembered forever is encoded into long term memory to store it in our brain even after we sleep and wake up the next day. Dreams are stored in the temporary memory which requires a cognitive view to encode the dream to memory consolidation (Vertes, 2004).
Consolidation works in storing of a memory that has been proved by the clinic anatomical hypothesis that dreams are initiated with the arousing stimuli that is being generated within the brain. Next they combine the current information with the existing memories that are being received by our senses. Consolidation works in more than one function rather than just combining the new memory with the old memory, it also helps in reorganizing and classifying the present information (Cipolli, 2004).
Discussion
The best work of dream consolidation can be found in specific stages of sleep. Hartley and Smith stated that dreaming has distorted the strength of associative links in the memory. The two best consolidated memories that are usually found in a person are: declarative memory and procedural memory (Vertes, 2004).
The least way of dream consolidation to work is the moment when a proper sleep (deep sleep) is not taken and eyes start to flop, this is a REM sleep. A tired person will require more sleep because he would not be able to concentrate or remember most of the things which require remembering on a long term basis.
Sleep mentation is a term used where a rapid eye movement results in better memory and expanded perceptions on our daily problems and concerns. The reason for consolidation to be more effective while sleeping or dreaming is that our memories for recent activities and past experiences ...
