A Doll's House was premiered on 21 Dec 1879 in Denmark at the very famous Royal theatre. The play had fallen a victim of criticism, since the very first day it was published; controversies have either given it a source of fame or a source of defamation. This play majorly focuses on women's rights, Ibsen who gave a speech on 1898 stated that he had consciously worked for the women's right movement and was a very active part of it. The reason why this play came under the consideration of the public was because of the humiliation of women in the 18th century. It was the violation of women's rights in that era that urged Ibsen to write about this cause and stated the issue that could be brought to the consent of the public with a clear and concise idea.
Main Body
A Doll House
A doll's house is one of the novels which may seem very clear and concise to the reader but it this is not what the actual scenario here. A doll's house is all about the gender relations in modern society, it tells us the story of the past which even till date is being followed in a number of countries, the difference is that the story is conveyed to us in characters, and those characters are part of the human race till date. The characters identified in this play can be easily sorted out in a group of individuals. This society today has become a society where the women has to struggle a lot to mark her identity and position, and even till date after so much of struggle the women have not secured the position they deserve this act tells us about the oppression that takes place in the middle class family against women. Patriarchy's socialization of women into servicing creatures is the major accusation in Nora's painful account to Torvald of how first her father and then her husband used her for their amusement. Nora who had been through so many difficulties in her time has always been seen as an object which was used many times for amusement. (Templeton 142). Getting in to more detail of the stated quote, all those harassments that take place against women today is because the women in today's era is still seen as an object which worth's nothing more than amusement to men.
If we look very deep into the production of the play, we would find out that Nora was deeply hurt down inside her heart and had to face so much of oppression of men of the society who had learnt to pressurize and neglect women. Nora had to fight them all and win her battle with her courage and confidence. People would always be very sympathetic towards Nora and would pay very less attention to the other side where she actually left her children to win her battle against the men of that era.
