Introduction

Throughout history, people have characterized faiths and beliefs regarding the prospective of mortals with intellectual disability through low anticipations of success at the academic level (Farrell & Elkins, 1991), fixed amount of services (Bochner & Petersen, 1996), and restrained approach to chances for education (Fowler, Doherty & Boynton, 1995). However, in the past few decades, experts have done a substantial amount of work in the field of literacy education and this has enabled children with intellectual disability to get better support in terms of language and learning.

An IEP (individual Education Program) is a written educational plan and designed to meet the unique needs of your child. The plan describes the goals in the child's education, program, and services that the school will provide to the children and how it will measure progress towards achieving the targets. The “IEP team” of the child writes the program. The child's IEP team must meet and write the IEP over a period of 30 days after it determines that your child receive special education services other services related to it.

Discussion

In my case study, I had analyzed the influence of a series of tutoring sessions on the literacy development of a small boy, Ted, who was suffering from Down's syndrome. Teachers conducted sessions with the child conducted within the program namely, LATCH-ON (Literacy and Technology-Hands On) at the St. Mary's Academy, Clinton. During the process, teachers utilized a number of resources to instruct the child, which included technology, as well. Firstly, I took the role of an observer throughout the covered sessions and behaved as an individual coach to the young child, Ted.
