Doomsday Theories
Introduction
Doomsday or Armageddon has been described as an end to the world as a result of a massive global catastrophe. There are many theories related to the doomsday concept that has attracted the attention of millions of people among the world. It was not until the discovery of The Mayan Long Calendar took place which specified that the doomsday is to take place on the 21st of December 2012.
If the estimated duration would have been about 200 years in the future, nobody would have even bothered to speculate about it, but 2012 is not even a year away. If the Mayans are true in their estimation then the world is nearing its end. Theories like these have been a center of attraction and inquisition since quite a time now, and here in this research paper we are going to study all the main theories about the doomsday according to the scientific, mythological and pseudoscientific aspects.
Discussion and Analysis
All the theories that relate to doomsday are about putting an end to life. While there are many specific revelations that will be discussed as we progress, some common happenings before the end of the world include: radiations from the sun that will kill every specie on Earth, a shift of the magnetic poles of the planet, collisions between the Erath and planet “X”, the destruction of the planet by natural calamities including floods, tsunamis, volcano eruptions, earth quakes etc. There has been a lot of interest about the world end theories all around the world and this was because of a few significant expected changes in the course of life within the same year 2012. The year 2012 will be the year of Apocalypse. A Greek term by nature, Apocalypse refers to the revelation of something significant that was hidden from the mankind throughout an era that was led by misconceptions. It also refers to the “revelation” of Jesus Christ as Messiah. It has been established that this revelation will take place in the same year as 2012 (Milbranth, 1999). Moreover, the term also refers to the Armageddon, the final heroic battle between the Messiah and the anti Christ which will lead the world to an end according to Abrahamic religions. Hence after the battle the world may never be the same again and the human race will not survive (Joseph, 2007).
