One in four women may experience violence in their relationships with men (Dewar? 2008? 1-6) Severe? repeated and systematic violence occurs in at least 5 of every hundred marriages in Britain. (Aldarondo? 2004? 425-439) Many women's lives are still deeply affected by unequal power relationships between men and women and by conventional expectations about domesticity as well as by the actualities of their responsibilities for the care of children and the home in which they live.
