Domain Name System (DNS)

The machines contained on the pages you see on the Internet, or managing mail services are identified by a number that is like the ID of this machine. This number called an IP address, and consists of four numbers ranging from 0 to 255, such as 217.76.130.185. Internet domains were invented to make it much easier to locate one of these machines on the Internet, is best remembered as a domain name that combination of four numbers. Technically it occurs, when you type in the address bar of a domain, for example, “http://www.dominios-internet.com".

Size of the Domain Name System

The structuring of the DNS relies on a tree structure in which defined the top-level domains (TLD called for Top Level Domains), attached to a root node represented by a point called "domain name" each node of the tree. Each node has a label (in English "label") with a maximum length of 63 characters. All domains names and is an inverted tree where each node is separated from the next by a period (".").

The end of a branch is called the host, and corresponds to a machine or a network entity. The host name assigned must be unique in this area, or if the sub domain. For example, the web server and a domain is usually the name www. DNS size is mainly depending on the cache when you visit a web page; Windows tries to speed up its opening by placing the DNS information in its cache this DNS. With the increase in size increases, the activity of the cache and its ability to store a greater number of addresses (Frederic, 2009).

Three Important Components for DNS

The DNS system has three essential components

Namespace domain (Domain Namespace) with related resource records (Resource Records)

The space domain name refers to the entire hierarchical structure to organize records of resources; a resource record is information in the database of a given DNS zone, used to identify a host, an IP address, or a parameter of the DNS database.

DNS Zone

This area defines the DNS portion of the tree subject to a single administration. The zones are defined within the DNS server, we can then define the "zone" a set of domains on which the server has authority. The DNS servers are concerned with maintaining the database of resource records and stores information about the structure of the domain namespace. Attempt to resolve requests (queries) made by clients, using the information in their databases.

Resolvers

They are functions of the operating system or applications running on the DNS client and DNS server. When you must use a domain name, the resolver creates a query with queries the DNS server here. The resolver is using on servers, for if a DNS server does not have information about a given area; transmit the request via the resolver to another DNS server (Ron, 2011).
