Introduction

The world today in which we live is surrounded by phenomena of chaos, war and terrorism. In America, and the rest of the world that uses internet regularly the emerging issue or the problem is that of identity theft. It is considered to be the fastest growing crime in America as millions of victims have been reported over a period of last couple of years. Identity theft is a crime when someone uses the personal information such as name, Social Security number, credit card number or other identifying information, without the permission of the concerned person to commit fraud or other crimes typically for economic gain. As a result of the theft of this information the threat of the terrorism activity gets increased. On one hand where the government of the United States asks for the Real ID to increase the security measures then at the same time they are also inviting troubles by gathering a mammoth amount of personal information in databases. The aim and objective of this paper is to talk about the requirement of the Real ID set by the federal law. Many of the people believe that this requirement of the Real-Id would violate the personal privacy. This paper provides points and reasons why this requirement of the Real-Id violates personal privacy.

Discussion

With regard to the terrorism and to deal with the number of issues of immigration the Real ID Act of 2005 was enacted on May 11. 2005. This was an act of the Congress that brought changes in the federal law related to the matter of security, issuance procedure standards for the identification cards and driving license and authentication. According to this Act, every person in the United States would be required to maintain a Real ID complaint identification document. In the absence of this document one is not supposed to drive the car, get a job, board a train or plane, cash a check, make the purchasing of the tobacco, alcohol or guns, and open a bank account. After this law as passed many states as well as individual opposed this law because they think that the requirement of the Real ID would violate the personal privacy.
