Overview

Philippine mythology and folklore include a collection of tales and superstitions about magical creatures and entities. Some Filipinos, even though heavily westernized and Christianized, still believe in such entities. The prevalence of belief in the figures of Philippines mythology is strong in the provinces. The country has many islands and is inhabited by different ethnic groups, Philippine mythology and superstitions are very diverse.

Folklore-is a body of widely traditional beliefs, legends, and customs of a people: it is a study of such lore or unsubstantiated beliefs.

Do you believe in Philippine mythology and folklore? Our world existed many billions of years ago, and in it, once lived a group of Filipino people before us. These Filipino peoples are unknown to us we are unknown to them. For us, they are just Filipino peoples that existed here in our world in a long-forgotten era. We are very different to them their cultures, beliefs, and behaviors. However they are not entirely forgotten for they took part on the mysteries of our world. One of them was our beliefs in Philippine mythology and folklore.

Imagine Filipino peoples belief superstitions about magical creatures and entities which are not in scientifically basis. Ancient Philippine mythology varies among the many indigenous tribes of the Philippines. Some groups during the pre-Spanish conquest era believed in a single Supreme Being who created the world and everything in it, while others chose to worship a multitude of tree and forest deities (diwatas). Diwatas came from the Sanskrit word devata which means "deity", one of the several significant Hindu influences in the Pre-Hispanic religion of the ancient Filipinos.

Despite undergoing a standardized evolutionary transition from a traditional to a modern society, Philippine culture today still retains the prevalence of mythology which continues to be strong, especially in the provinces. Some Filipinos, even though heavily westernized and Christianized, still believe in such entities, characterized by myths, legends and superstitions because the country has many islands and is inhabited by different ethnic groups, Philippine mythology and superstitions are very diverse. However, certain similarities exist among these groups, such as the belief in Heaven, Hell, and the human soul.[1]

In the Philippines, many different ethnic groups were inhibited a lot of beliefs which are divers in the country. Environmental thinking was one of the reason why they believed it. Mythology speaks of such world calamities as a great fire and a deluge that happened a long time ago, and myths describing such calamities are worldwide in occurrence. In the Philippines, there seems to be no myth about great fires, but flood myths are quite common. In majority of the myths, the flood occurs as a punishment for the people's failure to fulfill their sacrificial obligations to the gods or to observe God's laws.
