CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Problem
Today in the contemporary world, the succession of crisis has become the most dominant factor in the business world. There are various aspects of the crisis management in Saudi Arabia which includes health, security, economic, financial, climatic and natural disasters. Nations and communities have been highly demanding about activating readiness and experience in the management of crisis and as well as prolongation of the companies and organizations. Crisis management is not taken as a matter of choice or luxury but it should be considered as the essential element in the planning for future development. Most of the case studies about crisis management in the current literature involve several examples in which the crisis was handled by the corporations effectively in the past few years (Ramu, 2000). However, the literature that exists on crisis management is often speckled and does not clearly explain the relation with the corporations.
In this research study, various examples of the management crisis in KSA will be discussed during the recent years which will clearly demonstrate the distressing crises of all kinds, the need for the FMCG corporations about how to create an effective understanding about the crisis communication and skills that are required to grow (Sellnow, Ulmer and Seeger, 2011, p. 3). The study will carry out the literature studies and opinions of experts, which will help in creating a layout that how the present crisis, impeding crisis and aftermath of the crisis. Through a research on the best practices in the management of a crisis and deeply analyzing them, corporations will be able to minimize the adverse effects of the crisis which have affected the performance of the organizations.
1.2 Purpose of the Study
The purpose of the study will be to explore the effective crisis management in the FMCG sector in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The study will investigate the practices adopted by the various FMCG corporations to manage the crisis before and after it has occurred.
1.3 Significance of the Study
This will ultimately bring benefits for the management specialists who possess the responsibility of finding and managing the solutions for the situations of the crisis management. This research will help the organizations to prevent itself from trailing everything if they are hit my any crises because “planning to manage crises and issues is the key to corporate survival” (Larkin & Regester, 2008, p. 206). Since many organizations are under the consequences of the crisis management throughout the year, it has been considered very imperative to conduct a research study on the best ...
